About Us
Donald F. McGrann started D.F. McGrann Company in 1974 as a one-man, home-based manufacturer's representative for Simplicity Pattern Company's Norfolk, New York mill and St. Raymond, a Canadian newsprint and groundwood specialty mill. From this modest start in Watertown, New York, today's McGrann Paper Corporation developed. In 1978, Don invited his son Karl to join him, and the character of the company began to change from mill rep to that of a merchant firm.
The incorporation of D.F. McGrann Company in 1979 set the stage for growth, a move to larger quarters, and an expansion of services. The next year was a landmark year at McGrann. First, a move to the 5th floor of the old F.W. Woolworth Company building in downtown Watertown, then the hiring of Keith Castle and Barbara Cook to expand clientele.

Thus began a period of rapid growth for D.F. McGrann, Inc. In 1981, the company moved to Stone Street, broadened mill sources and paper lines, and established new customers. When the old New York State D.O.T. building became available in 1985, Don and Karl decided to try warehousing rolls of paper. Sales grew impressively, after just two years in the D.O.T. building, McGrann moved over 1,000 tons of paper to their site in the Jefferson County Industrial Park, as well as consolidating off-site administrative offices in their new location. With an abundance of space, the long dreamed of converting facilities soon became a reality. The 60-inch Appleton winder was installed, and with it came a new opportunity to service their customers' needs. First, a Beloit winder was installed, then two Eastman Kodak machines followed two years later. In the fall of 1993, a Langston machine to wind core stock was purchased along with a third Kodak winder.
In 1986, Don moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina, and passed leadership of McGrann Paper, and the title of President, on to Karl. Don retained the title of Chairman of the Board, and continues to provide sales support. Under Karl's able leadership, converting operations have flourished! Warehouse Building Three was completed in 1991 and filled to capacity. New converting facilities were added in Canton, Ohio, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The summer of 1997 saw the completion of a new office wing in Watertown. In March 1999, after 10 years of dedicated service, Anthony Nanna was named President of McGrann Paper West, our Las Vegas, NV location at the time.
In August 2003, we moved our West Coast facility from Las Vegas, NV to Pomona, CA. We continue to utilize outside warehousing to service our nearby customers.
In early 2006 our corporate headquarters moved to a new facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. Warehousing and converting operations are both handled at this location. In July 2007, we also opened a new facility in Albany, New York and moved converting operations from Watertown to this new location.
At the end of June 2008, we moved our Pomona office to a new facility in Rancho Cucamonga and we closed our office in Canton Ohio.
What's in the future for McGrann Paper Corporation? One thing you can count on is that we, at McGrann, will always strive to meet the evolving needs of our current as well as our future customers!
